Opal Manor is our peaceful retreat from the chaos of Washington, DC—an iconic estate known locally as “the yellow house on the hill.”
Built in 1889 (though some records were lost in a Richmond fire), the home sits on three acres overlooking the fields where the Battle of Fauquier Springs took place during the Civil War. In the 1980s and 1990s, the East Wing, Solarium, pool, and pergola were thoughtfully added, enhancing the original Victorian architecture with expanded living spaces and inviting outdoor features.
The property extends into the floodplain below, a wide-open field that stretches to the tree line bordering the Rappahannock River. This protected land ensures the view remains beautifully undeveloped and serene.
